Many thanks to Heather Rawlett with Maryland Placenta Nurse for sharing her blog post on this topic!
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have me in your home preparing your pills? Occasionally I have a client ask me what it’s like to have their placenta prepared in their own home. Here is what I tell them.
After scheduling a convenient time with your designated contact person, I arrive to your home within 48 hours of delivery. My goal is always to arrive within 24 hours, but occasionally it’s closer to the 48 hour mark. I arrive in scrubs, with my own equipment and sanitize the work area. If there are dirty dishes in the sink or on the counter, I wash, dry and put them away before starting my sanitation process. If there are steak knives or a coffee pot that I don’t need to move, I cover these to protect them before I begin.
I begin my work, and quietly steam the placenta to prepare it for dehydration. You may smell ginger while it is steaming, as I use ground ginger in the water, and perhaps you may smell the bleach solution I use for sanitizing. The aroma isn’t overpowering and quickly dissipates when I’m finished.
After my work is done, I clean the area again and put everything back the way I found it. I am usually finished with the entire process before mom & baby arrive home from the hospital.
I leave written instructions on how to take the pills as well as other useful information for your review.
Registered Nurse/ Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
I have been working in a hospital setting as a mother/baby RN for the past 8 years. I teach classes in newborn care, a sibling class for young children and give hospital tours. I am very familiar with hospital policies & procedures which allows me to offer my clients information, tips & what to expect prior to the birth of their baby.
I am a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist (CPES) through Placenta Benenfits Info (PBi). I prepare the placenta using the Traditional Chinese Medicine method in your own home.
