Thank you for visiting our site! My name is Jessica Kent and I co-lead our local Birthing Circle of Frederick group with Eva Street and Mary Neubauer. Our group began as a small support group for families interested in more natural birth options, but we fully support families choosing any style birth. Many of our families wanted to be intentional during their pregnancies and births, and wanted to expand their options. We have an amazing community of local midwives, doulas, and other birth workers that work tirelessly to provide those options.
I became interested in starting a website when I realized that although I had been a part of this community for about a year, I still didn’t know what all of the local resources were, and I wanted to learn more. I was heartbroken during my pregnancy when I finally found that there was a natural birthing center in Leesburg (a 30 minute drive for me), but I hadn’t known about it in time to actually deliver there. If only I’d had that information! I also noticed that many other women were asking for the same thing- who does prenatal massage, acupuncture, postpartum counseling? Medicine isn’t working, is there another way to help my gassy baby? Our closed Facebook group helped connect me with many of these answers, and I want to share these amazing resources with others.
I currently have a 10 month old baby, born in April 2015, wonderfully delivered by Midwifery Care Associates. I struggled a lot with the challenge of breastfeeding, as well as Postpartum Anxiety in the early months. So many women in the Birthing Circle and La Leche League provided support to me online, via phone calls and endless texts, and by coming over in person to help. That support made all the difference for me, and I want to let women know that we can be that support for you if you are struggling. Pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum days were such an amazing time, such a hard time, and such a vulnerable time. The women who came alongside me in those days changed my life, and we can be there for you too. Please reach out if you are looking for resources, information, or support; this site is for you!
Blessings, Jessica Kent
