Board of Directors
Please meet our 2017 Board of Directors! We are each fully committed to the mission of The Birthing Circle to build community and improve birth. Thank you for allowing us to serve you!
Jessica L E Kent
President, Executive Director
Jessica Kent began working with The Birthing Circle in the fall of 2015 after the birth of her son, Cody. As a certified holistic doula, a La Leche League volunteer, and a proud mother, she brings a deep passion for improving birth, raising healthy babies, and building community to the Birthing Circle. Jessica uses her varied backgrounds of social work, women’s studies, and project management to provide the best care to the women and babies she serves. Jessica serves as President, Executive Director, co-leads the Frederick chapter, and serves as a doula for the Frederick Doula Project.
Sarah Fangmeyer has been a part of The Birthing Circle as a mom and volunteer for years. She has been trained as a doula and now serves as our Board Secretary and co-leads our Frederick chapter. Sarah also volunteers as the Director for Intact Maryland and lives in Frederick with her husband and two sons.
Director of Business Development
Suzanne has been involved in the Birthing Circle community for years, first as a mom, then a volunteer, and now as a board member and Director of Business Development. Her professional background in nonprofit business development and passion for serving local families make her an amazing asset to our team. Suzanne lives in Boonsboro with her husband and three children.
Director of the Frederick Doula Project
Kate has been a professional doula for nine years in the Frederick community. Her passion for birth and improving outcomes for parents and babies led her to join the Frederick Doula project in 2016, and she now serves as its Director and on our board. Kate lives in Frederick with her husband and two boys.
Director of the Grants Department
When Neena connected with The Birthing Circle as a new mom, she found that the support she received was invaluable. In her role on our board and as the Director of the Grants Department, she combines her dedication to helping birthing and postpartum families with her professional background in grant writing. Neena lives in Middletown with her husband and son.
Director of Marketing
Kelsey joined The Birthing Circle community after the birth of her son JJ. Through this experience, she became interested in helping local families find resources to help them through pregnancy and postpartum, and now serves on our board as our Director of Marketing.
